About Greg

Greg has worked with horses since his early teens and began his career as a full time farrier in 1996 after graduating from the Canadian School of Horseshoeing.

Greg began his career as an apprentice shoeing standardbred race horses where he worked on horses with six and seven digit price tags (including two pacing Triple Crown Winners through their most successful seasons). During this time Greg developed his skills in trimming for proper balance, gait corrections and shoeing to optimize a horse’s performance. In addition, Greg has a great deal of experience with therapeutic shoeing, quarter cracks and hoof rebuilds with acrylic.

Practicing and developing techniques while working in the high pressured race track environment in Greg’s early career taught him to approach each shoeing job objectively and confidently. In addition to shoeing horses, Greg has a vast knowledge of handling and caring for horses having lived at and helped to operate an eventing/dressage competition and lesson facility for 11 years.

Greg currently operates Birett Farrier Service. His main cliental are English performance horses - hunter/jumper, dressage and eventing. Greg is a director for the Ontario Farriers Association (a position he has held for a number of years) and regularly attends the association’s clinics, competitions and conventions. He is also a member of the American Farriers Association through which he completed his written and practical tests to become a Certified Farrier.
